ABSTRACT

This chapter is about the prescribed medicines taken by the elderly people in our sample: the number, nature, by whom and when they had been prescribed, and the frequency and circumstances of repeat prescribing. Whether people take their medicines as advised is then discussed, and various characteristics of the medicines that are associated with this are identified. Elderly people’s perceptions of the side-effects of their medication are then considered and finally the prescribed medicines they were no longer taking and those kept in their homes are described.
