ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the FELT termination process, describing the discussion of planned termination with the child and parents starting at least two sessions before the final planned session and then focusing on the actual final session, which involves the co-creation (with the child) of a book about the child’s therapy. Story stem ideas designed to prepare the child for graduation from therapy are offered. Next, the chapter gives an outline of the goals and structure of the termination session. Finally, the text concludes with a sample termination book actually used in FELT, with added commentary outlining motivations behind the inclusion of each component of the sample book.
