ABSTRACT

Good health is obviously so important at every stage of life that there is no need to labour the point. Our attitude to good health in later years often follows the same unfortunate trend as our attitude to our mental abilities or physical fitness: we expect them to decline because we are getting older. There is no need to expect any such decline to be natural. Decline does occur, but mostly because we expect it to occur. We expect that in time life will be diminished in all its aspects, and we do nothing positive to prevent or to remedy this state of affairs. It is much more natural that we can and should be in good health at any age, provided we live sensibly, enjoyably and expect to be well. Then if we do not feel well at any time we should seek the cause, and not ascribe our ill-health to our age.
