ABSTRACT
The issues involved in the relationships between intellectual functioning and mental illness in the aged were investigated in our Newcastle upon Tyne study. This area has long been the poor relation in medical and psychological research, but the impetus of improved diagnosis of psychiatric illness in the aged has opened many new avenues for research.
