ABSTRACT

Sadleir wrote an article on Kandinsky’s Über das Geistige in der Kunst for Art News (9 March 1912) and in this piece he elaborates further on Kandinsky’s colour theories. Kandinsky’s painting was first seen in London at the Allied Artists’ exhibitions in 1909 and 1910. In 1911 Sadleir bought some Kandinsky woodcuts from the same exhibition, obtained the artist’s address, then in 1912, accompanied by his father, visited him at his home in Munich. Sadleir went on to translate Kandinsky’s book which was published as Concerning the Spiritual in Art (1914).
