ABSTRACT
Meier-Grafe was the art editor for the Paris magazine, Pan and the translation of his Modern Art provided the first extensive historical account in English of the modern movement in painting. His passionate and eccentric style was both stimulating and bewildering for the British public and, though the two volumes were extensively illustrated, few people in Britain had seen the original paintings.
