ABSTRACT

Jim Corbett is an author whose books written in the 1940s and 1950s continue to remain bestsellers. An iconic figure, with no comparable examples, Jim Corbett is known for having hunted the man-eater tigers and leopards in the Himalayas. It is lesser known that he was a third-generation descendant of Irish parents and grandparents who never went back to Ireland. There are multiple biographies of the author published in different countries, but there is hardly any analytical writing on him or his works. This chapter brings together all of Corbett’s writings to show what made Jim Corbett the renowned hunter, how he turned to tiger conservation, why he has become part of the folklore of the western Himalayas and above all, what makes his writings loved by readers across the world.
