ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes that Böttcher is found to be a progressive documentary filmmaker, and scholars do have a responsibility to identify and correct gaps in the historical record of a discipline, such as the omission of Böttcher. The maturation of documentary-making and scholarship is discussed, and as documentary filmmaking moves into a post-modern period, the study concludes with illustrating Böttcher's contributions beyond mode or region, such as Böttcher's relationships with the people he filmed as well as his philosophical understanding of complex movements and change.
