ABSTRACT

The success of wind energy is an important boost to energy transition in itself. But it can also speed up another transition: the green transition in the steel and chemistry sectors, which must lead to the structural reduction of CO2 emissions. Converting renewably generated electricity into green hydrogen can provide European industry with a new raw material. Additionally, hydrogen can be used to make mobility more sustainable. And finally, hydrogen can be used as a sort of storage battery to dampen the peaks and troughs of the frenzied surplus-and-shortage cycle of sustainable electricity.
