ABSTRACT
Europe must become more assertive and follow its own course. This is a slow cultural and social process – but we are making headway. Ultimately, we have to stand on our own two feet and for that, radical political choices have to be made. With its industry policy, the EC has made its first steps towards greater international autonomy. But Brussels has to lead the transitions towards further digitalisation, sustainability and innovation with firm and clear steps. That requires a number of conditions. I will sum up the most important here.
