ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 shows how to design the group process. Contrary to the larger system and participatory process that are discussed in the preceding chapter, here the focus is on what needs to happen in the workshop room. The heart of the chapter is the presentation of Tuckman’s famous model on group process phases and what these mean for workshop or meeting design. However, the facilitator must recognize that the model is a map, not the reality. Situations in the workshop room may deviate from expectations. Person-Centered Practice helps address these situations, and the facilitator should remain open to new learnings and system dynamics. Practical tips on location selection, room preparation, and agenda design are presented to conclude the chapter.
