ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 explores the theme of personal growth as a universally meaningful concept by examining examples of world literature, including religious texts and fairy tales – suggesting that personal growth involves the development of one’s mind and spirit. It then transitions to a scientific perspective on personal growth, specifically focusing on the ego-development theories proposed by Jane Loevinger and Susanne Cook-Greuter. These theories outline different stages of personal growth. The chapter establishes a connection between these stages and facilitation skills, illustrating what facilitators can accomplish at each level of personal growth. Ultimately, the chapter aims to highlight the significance of personal growth for facilitators and to inspire them to embark on this transformative journey.
