ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 describes the practical means for facilitators to cultivate personal growth, which in turn expands their facilitation skills. The chapter delves into the life and contributions of Carl Rogers, showcasing the origins, validity, and impact of the Person-Centered Approach as well as the five Core Qualities of a facilitator. It demonstrates that practicing these Core Qualities – congruence, unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding, trusting in constructive tendencies, and inviting the unknown – facilitates personal growth and skill enhancement. The chapter provides an in-depth discussion of these Core Qualities and concludes by emphasizing their crucial role in the facilitator’s communication, that is, their practical application.
