ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 introduces Person-Centered Communication. This enables facilitators to embody the previously discussed person-centered approach and translate the core qualities into actions. Person-Centered Communication encompasses Schulz von Thun’s congruent communication, Marshall B. Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and the skill of facilitating group dialogue (treated in Chapter 5). NVC is based on the facilitator’s qualities described in the preceding chapter. Chapter 4 recognizes the significance of NVC in facilitation, sheds light on the life of its creator, and describes the practice of NVC for facilitation. The chapter highlights that NVC is particularly valuable for navigating unexpected situations and conflicts. It concludes with a look at the limits of NVC in specific facilitation situations.
