ABSTRACT

This chapter provides basic information about the operations of the Japanese army in Thailand during the war. After describing the overall trend of the Japanese army in Thailand from the outbreak to the end of war, the chapter goes on to describe the military police systems for both Japanese and Thai (Joint Military Police). I then focused on the changes in the number and location of Japanese garrisons in Bangkok, revealing that they were concentrating in specific areas of Bangkok, especially in Pathumwan, Bang Rak and Yannawa districts. Finally, I confirmed the changes in the garrisons and visiting places of Japanese soldiers from the beginning until the end of war to grasp the situation of both the stationing and passing through of Japanese soldiers. Although the number of garrisons reduced after the outbreak of the war, it increased again to a maximum of 102 districts in the middle of 1945. Therefore, there was a possibility that the incidents/accidents between Japanese and Thais could occur all over the country.
