ABSTRACT

Teaching is a universal profession, meaning that everyone knows about how schools work because they went to school. Therefore, many assumptions are made about what teachers do and what is expected from a school. This leads to the difficulty we experience in changing outdated practices, even in the face of evidence. This chapter addresses some current educational issues through a constructivist lens. Topics include grade-level teams, screen time, rewards, curriculum, and motivation, among others. After reading each section, readers are encouraged to use the questions to reflect upon their beliefs and practices.
