ABSTRACT

Notwithstanding the myriad positive externalities that transport and cities occasion, the same also create negative externalities. In a time of aggravating environmental crisis, the adverse ecological impacts of transport and cities have to be considered alongside the beneficial effects on development from the same. Urban mobility development and management stands out in addressing the challenges of urbanization for it simultaneously addresses the critical duality of developmental aspects of any urban agglomeration – agglomeration economies enhancement and congestion diseconomies mitigation. In essence, urban mobility development and management strategy can and should address the concerns of a socially inclusive as well as an environmentally sustainable economic growth. Accordingly, by traversing from abstraction to everyday life, from global context to frontier context and from macro level to micro level, the book is conceived to make an important theoretical as well as empirical contribution towards creating green urbanization for green growth.
