ABSTRACT

Juliet Mitchell was born in New Zealand but moved when very young to England where she has lived since. Previously a lecturer in English, she is now a psychoanalyst. At forty-one she is married with a four year old daughter. Well known as an activist in the early years of the women’s liberation movement in England, she has published a number of books and articles: ‘Women: the Longest Revolution’ in New Left Review (1966, vol. 40); Woman’s Estate (1971); Psychoanalysis and Feminism (1974) and The Rights and Wrongs of Women (editor with Ann Oakley, 1976).
