ABSTRACT

On the individual level, why do people become part of a backlash? If many women were inspired to join the women’s movement in the 1960s and demand liberation, how is it that some did not? There are, of course, women too tired, too oppressed and too concerned with the survival of themselves and their children to have time to search for self-fulfilment. There are those who do not come into contact with the ideas of equality and liberation. But what about those who assertively reject the women’s movement? What is different about these antifeminist women which leads them to denounce the moves for equality?
