ABSTRACT

One of the central themes in this book has been that sociological analysis can benefit from adopting new literary forms. In this chapter I am going to complete, and in my own way celebrate, this preliminary exploration of new forms by turning my attention to parody. My starting point is the proposal that all (sociological) analysis is a form of parody and, therefore, that parody can be a form of (sociological) analysis. This argument can be sustained, I think, in relation to any kind of analysis. I will concentrate, however, on the particular case of sociology.
