ABSTRACT

In the last chapter we saw how elderly widowed people depended on their relatives and friends, and that these relationships were important in helping them to adjust to their new situation and to overcome their feelings of loneliness and isolation. What does this mean to the people they turn to for support and help? In this chapter we look at the experiences and views of the widowed people’s familiars – those they identified as knowing most about their circumstances since their bereavement.
