ABSTRACT

The impact of technology including artificial intelligence (AI) on our culture, tradition and social values remains quite apparent and hence, it is worth debating. Starting from matrimony sites in finding your ideal life partner to the industry of manufacturing and production in curtailing the cost of production, the use of AI is becoming necessary and unavoidable. AI tools hope to transform and redefine the way of conventional matching sites. AI techniques are also instrumental in optimizing the supply chain and accelerating research and development. The functioning of news agencies worldwide is no exception. With AI techniques being increasingly incorporated in several fields, it has raised discussions on whether these algorithms are a blessing or scourge on society. Herein lies the role of media responsibility. The role of journalism is vital in understanding, examining, debating and disseminating the sociocultural values of AI. Media should be proactive and vigilant on the functions of AI in society. It should persistently report and disseminate the impact of AI on the human race. The current chapter attempts to highlight the mediating role of journalism in understanding the socio-cultural implications of AI in society.
