ABSTRACT
Data journalism is increasingly becoming an accepted approach in newsrooms across the globe. Big data and new computational tools are creating or elevating a news story. With the incorporation of new computational tools, digital storytelling in the space of disseminating news has been redefined. It has covered various aspects of data journalism, which has brought revolutions in telling data stories to the audience. However, it has thoroughly brought various factors contesting data journalism, which keeps on unfolding each day. With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), data journalism has undergone several changes. AI tools like ChatGPT have further redefined the nature and applications of data journalism. An intersection of AI with data has raised umpteen viewpoints that need to be further discussed for the way forward. This chapter highlights the origin, nature and developments of data journalism.
