ABSTRACT

Playfulness is a virtue that helps people use their leisure time well. Playfulness includes considering seriousness, creativity, humility, optimism, and sociality. Playful people develop the virtue of playfulness by resting, developing themselves, and engaging their communities in the right ways at the right times. Nonplayful people, by contrast, squander their leisure time, which impedes their happiness. Ultimately, our leisure time teaches us to be free, and playfulness teaches us about our humanity and the humanity of others. The happiest people in life are playful, and playful people stand a better chance at happiness.
