ABSTRACT

The initiation of research into planning information resulted from a conference on access to information held by the Library Association in 1965. As a result of this conference, a resolution was passed calling on the Department of Education and Science to set up machinery for a national rationalisation and co-ordination of bibliographic and information resources. Before this could be done, more information was required on bibliographical needs, particularly in the humanities and the social sciences; and subsequently, it was decided to instigate a pilot investigation into the information requirements of a multi-disciplinary subject. The subject selected was town and country planning.
