ABSTRACT

Some students fall outside the normal range of human differences and merit special attention. Included are students of very high academic ability and others with special talents. At the other extreme, there are individuals who have severe learning difficulties, intellectual disability, autism, sensory and physical impairments, attention deficits, hyperactivity, speech and language disorders, and behavior problems. This chapter describes the characteristics of these students and suggests what their needs will be within an inclusive classroom. This is essential background knowledge that all teachers should have.
