ABSTRACT

Assessment is the main way for teachers to obtain accurate indications of what students can do and what they still need to learn. There are many methods that can be used and appropriate methods should be selected according to the age, ability range and needs of a particular class of students. This chapter provides information on each method of assessment, and indicates modifications and accommodations that may be needed for students with difficulties or disabilities. Information is also provided on grading students’ work and reporting progress to parents. Topics covered include summative and formative assessment, objectives-based assessment, standardized tests, diagnostic tests, dynamic assessment, and adapting and modifying assessment.
