ABSTRACT

This chapter further expands on the puzzle of “Lingdao” through demonstration of (1) how Chinese individuals and groups engage in acts aimed at mobilizing collective volition and (2) how the voices of the people, also a part of director's discourse, are heard, recorded, and spread out through the film medium. Four emerging themes among popular Chinese films were identified and discussed by featuring individuals and groups engaged in the mobilization of collective volition, and which included discourse or meta-language enciphered with the filmmaker's (or makers') intention to engage in social influence.
