Introduction

This introduction reflects upon the emergence of concerns with counting femicide in the form of the call for femicide watches and/or observatories. It outlines both the importance of counting and the potential problems that might be generated by it. It suggests that such practices can be both empirical and political and in so doing outlines the project of counting for the concerns of this book. An overview of the chapters that follow is also offered.
