ABSTRACT

In the networked era, innovation can be a very complex process and achieving it by the work of a single institution seems to be quite difficult. In “Museum Innovation Model” (MIM) open innovation acts as a strategy for innovation. Open innovation helps museums to connect with the outside world and, more important, with their communities through intentional and well-thought-out channels. The role of the social enterprise in MIM is to provide the museum with the tools and infrastructure to build sustainable revenue sources and a fertile environment for innovation. MIM sees the emergence of the post-digital paradigm in museums as imperative to build some of the necessary innovation infrastructures in museums. These infrastructures are manifested in helping the museum workforce develop its digital literacy, confidence and competence capacities. It is also MIM’s belief that the social innovation framework constitutes a very important context for the post-digital museum.
