A filmmaker's website and social media activity are increasingly vital in achieving long-term success within the film industry. The studio's perspective on dedicated film websites and social media activity also ignores the fact that studios don't, as a general rule, use social media to engage in interactive two-way discussions with fans. Perhaps the most insightful and respected study into website credibility and retention was completed, and is regularly updated, by Stanford University's Persuasive Technology Lab. People quickly evaluate a site based solely on visual design. Visitors have an expectation of what a site should look like reflecting its purpose. As revealed within Stanford University's research, website visitors quickly assess the credibility and appropriateness of a website based upon its design. Website templates provide Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) with consistent and complementary page layouts, typography and color schemes – all of which are highly customizable.
