ABSTRACT

The electronic press kit (EPK) is a significant component of the marketing and promotional campaigns of feature film projects. In contrast to physical press kits, EPKs are produced and distributed on websites, memory sticks, DVDs and similar storage devices so that all information can be provided in one convenient media while minimizing – and often eliminating – the need for external hotlinks. The first piece of EPK material that recipient sees should be the cover letter. In many respects, the cover letter may be the most important document in the EPK. The filmmaker's or director's statement is a five paragraph note explaining why the film and its storyline were important to the filmmaker and what he/she hoped to achieve. Like the cover letter, the director's statement should be written in a first-person conversational tone. The production notes form the largest component of the EPK and provide reader with more comprehensive understanding of the film and insights into its production.
