ABSTRACT
If a system of moderate multipolar balancing is to be established in the Asia-Pacific, the United States will need to work with other key regional states to resolve outstanding security problems in three places: on the Korean peninsula; across the Taiwan Strait; and in the South China Sea. The US will also have to reconcile its economic interests in the Asia-Pacific with its commitment to regional security goals.
