ABSTRACT

This chapter develops an expression for the linear momentum of a closed system of particles and showed that the rate of change of linear momentum of the system was equal to the sum of the external forces applied to the system. The solid fuel rocket motor is designed so that it burns fuel at a constant rate me and expels it from the exhaust nozzle at a velocity ? j relative to the missile. The absolute velocity of the fuel leaving the system boundary, measured in the direction of the missile motion. The construction of such a turbine and shows that the fluid is directed into the moving blades by a set of stationary nozzles fixed in the casing of the machine. The rate at which energy is supplied to the turbine from each nozzle is determined by the kinetic energy of the fluid leaving the nozzle per second.
