ABSTRACT
In order to canvas the opinion of other bodies in addition to LEAs, the working party invited submissions from respondents to the previous DECP survey in 1983, other organizations, the public and organizations abroad. A letter to the national press explained that the purpose of the new inquiry was to provide a disinterested and objective account of current educational policies and practices, and to make recommendations. It asked for comments on five points:
The concept of specific learning difficulties (dyslexia)
Identification and assessment
Prevention
Teaching methods
Provision of resources
