ABSTRACT
Hungarian is by far the most widely spoken Uralic language, with some thirteen million speakers in Hungary and adjacent countries and roughly another million scattered around the globe. The oldest continuous text dates from the end of the twelfth century, and from the fifteenth century a considerable philological record begins to accumulate.
