ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the principles and requirements of the Code of Practice and the associated DfE Circular (6/94). Particular emphasis is placed on the role of the SEN co-ordinator and on the issues which need to be addressed in order to ensure an effective whole-school approach to meeting special educational needs in mainstream schools.
