ABSTRACT
Reason was not always inscribed within a ring of indestructible confidence. Plato thought that reason emerges from the human world of shadow and illusion only with the greatest difficulty. The Judaeo-Christian tradition, founded as it is on the fundamental mysteries of God, confirms Plato’s assimilation, in the allegory of the cave (Plato, 1941, Book VII) of darkness and humanity.
