ABSTRACT

The previous chapter identified three concepts of control and indicated their different handling of some strategic control areas. The objective of this chapter and of Chapter 5 is to elaborate the dynamism of these concepts of control at the meso level of analysis. At this level of analysis, we will get a better view of the nature of interaction within industrial networks. Sections 4.2 and 4.3 will clarify a number of methodological issues. Section 4.2 will discuss the choice of the main actors to be studied in an industrial network and defines the concept of an industrial complex. Section 4.3 will propose a scale of dependencies between (groups of) actors. This scale will be used in the rest of this book as a qualitative yardstick to assess the relative bargaining patterns within an industrial complex.
