ABSTRACT
Bacon’s dedication of his ‘Translation of Certaine Psalmes into English’ to his ‘very good friend’ Herbert is the first public acknowledgment of the emerging poet’s talents Herbert returned the compliment in two Latin poems, the short ‘Ad Autorem Instaurationis Magnae’ and the lengthier and more effusive ‘In Honorem Illustr.
