Omond (d. 1923) had been a Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford. The title-page describes English Metrists as a ‘Sketch of English Prosodical Criticism from Elizabethan Times to the Present Day’. The passage on Hopkins appears in a ‘Postscript’ covering the twentieth century.
