ABSTRACT
In this chapter I have not achieved anything near a complete grammatical analysis of BSL, partly for reasons of space, but mostly because no complete analysis is yet available. Instead, I have tried to give an idea of the framework for a possible analysis, which would look both at structures in BSL and how they are modified to fulfil grammatical functions, and at possible grammatical functions or categories and how they are represented in structures. Future research on BSL will doubtless prove some of the details in this chapter incorrect, but I hope that the general approach will prove fruitful for future researchers.
