ABSTRACT
WHEN we look at Greece as a whole, the Peloponnese presents a very clearly marked geographical individuality. Connected with the continent by a narrow, low isthmus—four miles wide and 260 feet high at the maximum—it is, as the Greeks said, more an island than a peninsula.
