Darius was fleeing towards Thapsacos, with barely 4,000 men; other bodies of fugitives made for Asia Minor, where Alexander’s Satraps dispersed them; 8,000 mercenaries escaped to Tripolis in Phoenicia, whence several went to Cyprus, and from there to Egypt.
