ABSTRACT
A Relaxationof style is characteristic of the Rococo. The restraint of the Louis XIV period having degenerated into rigidity in all forms of life, the death of the king was inevitably followed by the licence of the Regency. The straitjacket in which thought, plastic creation, and human conduct generally had been confined, was burst asunder. The reaction which followed took the form of the Bizarre.
