ABSTRACT

The various Yugoslav peasant communities had never been united together in the same state before 1918. Now the capital, the king and the majority of the government personnel and of the military officers belonged to one national and religious group, the Orthodox Serbs. Moslem Slavs and Non-Slavs, Catholic Croats, Catholic Slovenes and all the various minorities were brought into contact with this large group. Generally speaking, the rulers were far more homogeneous than the population whom they aspired to rule.
