ABSTRACT

The application of the scale in the industrial county borough and port of Bootle has been the basis of the final revision described earlier. The same inquiry made possible some examination of the distribution of house scores, the relationship of different parts of the scale and the relationship of scores to other variables. This revised scale was also employed in a social survey in the Midland industrial county borough of Dudley, 1 and in the Oxford Child Health Survey. 2 In the following pages the Bootle results will be discussed first and then reference made to the data from Dudley and Oxford. The discussion of house scores will be followed by a consideration of the occupation scores obtained in the Bootle study. In another part of this work some results obtained in Liverpool are presented (pp. 163–166).
