ABSTRACT

The inquiry described here is a modest attempt to give an account of a complex of social factors, place, material culture, behaviour and attitudes of a number of urban families in their homes, and to relate this to social differentiation. It has its origin in theory and in subject-matter in the works of George Lundberg, F. Stuart Chapin, Robert K. Merton, Patrick Geddes, Lewis Mumford and Thorstein Veblen.
