ABSTRACT

The three preceding chapters have dealt with love and marriage from the standpoint of the individual couple or their counselor. We have seen, however, that the things these individuals can do to improve marriage are limited by the community and the larger social order. We live under a culture and although some of us, finding it oppressive, may defy it in some ways and some of the time, yet our little personal rebellions are less effective than joining with others to study and attack the difficulties which we feel in common with them.
