ABSTRACT
What parts do children play in the everyday lives of pensioners once they have left home and are busy bringing up children of their own? How many and how frequently do married children visit their parents? What, if anything, do they do for them when they visit? How many old people are, literally, quite alone in the world? How many are lonely? We shall try to answer these and related questions for our sample of two hundred pensioners households.
